In view of the coronavirus epidemic, the central government has extended the deadline to file income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 till 30 September, giving relief to taxpayers. Earlier, its last date was July 31. The Income Tax Department gave this information via tweet.
Last date extended for the third time:
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the third time. The ITR was to be filed by 31 March 2020 for the FY 2018-19 but it was extended to 30 June for the first time. Then it was extended to the last date of 31 July and now it has been extended to 30 September 2020.
Last date extended for the financial year 2019-20 too:
Earlier, the Income Tax Department had extended the date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2019-20, giving huge relief to the taxpayers. Now taxpayers will be able to file ITR by 30 November 2020.

Finance Minister gave this information during a press conference:
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during a press conference that the Central Government has extended the deadline for filing of Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2019-20 from the normal deadline 31 July 2020 to 30 November 2020. Income tax submission date has been increased from 31 July and 31 October to 30 November for the financial year 2019-20. The date of tax audit is being extended from 30 September to 31 October.
