The World Badminton Federation (BWF) has made a big announcement on Tuesday. The BWF has decided to postpone the Thomas & Uber Cup to be held next month for this year.
The BWF took this decision after several countries withdrew from the tournament. The Federation officially announced the postponement of this major tournament on Tuesday.
Thomas & Uber Cup was to be held in Denmark from October 3 to 11:
Let us tell you that the Thomas & Uber Cup was to be held in Denmark from October 3 to 11. Players from many countries have decided not to play in the tournament. In such a situation, the federation has to cancel this tournament for at least this year.
BWF issued a statement regarding the postponement of the tournament:
The BWF said in its official statement regarding the postponement of the Thomas & Uber Cup, “The Badminton World Federation (BWF), in full consultation and agreement with local host Badminton Denmark, has made the tough decision to postpone the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2020 in Aarhus, Denmark.
The decision comes following the withdrawal of a number of participating teams from the TOTAL BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals and the European leg of the adjusted HSBC BWF World Tour.
“BWF is looking into possible alternative dates to reschedule the World Men’s and Women’s Team Championships, but on dates not before into 2021.”
Many countries withdrew from the tournament:
Let us tell you that Indonesia and South Korea withdrew from the tournament on Friday, while teams from Australia, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Hong Kong have withdrawn their names earlier.
World champion PV Sindhu was to lead the Indian challenge in the Thomas & Uber Cup, but PV Sindhu had withdrawn her name before the tournament due to personal reasons.
The BWF has stated that the Denmark Open will start from 13 to 18 October.
