
From October 1, the importance of birth certificate is going to increase in document verification. Under the new rule, birth certificate can be used as a single document at many places including school admission, issuing driving license, voter ID, marriage registration, government employment, passport and Aadhaar.
The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill 2023 was passed in both houses of Parliament during the monsoon session. It had also received consent from the President. It is being implemented from October 1st.
The new law will also help in creating a national and state level data base of registered births and deaths. With this, public services can be delivered in a better way. This new rule will be applicable to birth certificates made on or after October 1.
The biggest change after the implementation of the law will be that birth and death certificates will also be available digitally. Currently only its hard copy is available. For this also one has to visit offices for many days.
Till now Aadhaar is used everywhere as an identity card. It needs to be linked to your other documents and accounts. Similarly, this will be a birth-death certificate, which will work as a universally accepted identity card everywhere for birth and death proof.
