Instant messaging app WhatsApp has rolled out two new features for video calls. This includes screen sharing and landscape mode features. With the Screen Sharing feature, users will be able to share their device's screen with other users during video calling. This feature allows users to share documents, photos and their shopping cart with people in the contact list.
Along with this, mobile can also be used on landscape mode during video calling. After the introduction of this feature, WhatsApp is competing with traditional video conferencing apps including Microsoft Meet, Google Meet and Zoom as well as Apple's FaceTime.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of WhatsApp's parent company Meta, gave information about it through other social media platforms including Facebook. Zuckerberg said in a post on Facebook, 'We are adding the feature of sharing your screen during video calls on WhatsApp.' Mark has also shared a screenshot with the post, in which he is seen on a video call.
Users will find this new feature of WhatsApp next to the camera switch option during video calling. This feature will be active only when the app users give permission for their screen sharing. With this, users will be able to stop screen sharing at any time.
When you tap on the screen sharing option during a video call, a warning message will be displayed in WhatsApp. After this, tap on the 'Start Now' button. Now you will be able to share your screen with other users.
Earlier, WABetaInfo had told in its report that WhatsApp is testing the screen-sharing feature during video sharing in beta version 2.23.11.19, through which it wants to improve the calling experience.
The special thing is that in the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, it is written that whatever information you share with other users while using this feature, WhatsApp will also be able to access it. This includes passwords, payment details, photos, messages and audios. That is, by using this feature, video calling will not be end-to-end encrypted.
