Ultra Tech Cement, which is the flagship company of Aditya Birla Group, will invest Rs 12,886 crore to increase the capacity of 22.6 million tonnes per annum over the next 3 years. This will not only strengthen its place as the third-largest cement company in the world, outside China but also further reinforces its leadership position in India.

The board of Ultra Tech Cement approved the CAPEX on Thursday. This decision comes barely a month after the Adani Group agreed with Holcim India's Swiss parent to buy the India assets (Ambuja Cements & ACC) for an estimated $10.5 billion, which is the largest project of billionaire Gautam Adani's Largest M&A.

UltraTech's current capacity is around 120mtpa. In December 2020, the business announced a Rs 5,700-crore investment to increase this to around 136mtpa. With the current announcement to add 22.6 million tons per year, UltraTech Cement's total capacity would be over 159 million tons per year by FY25. Birla's development will expand the gap between UltraTech Cement and Holcim, whose combined cement capacity is now over 70mtpa.

Ultra Tech Cement will establish integrated and grinding facilities

"The firm has more than quadrupled its capacity over the last five years and is dedicated to addressing India's future demands for homes, roads, and other infrastructure," Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said. Despite the enormity of the investment, I am certain that the development of new capacity would have a multiplier effect, resulting in jobs and growth throughout several areas in India."

According to the corporation, the capacity increase will be accomplished through a combination of brownfield and greenfield initiatives. This would be accomplished by the establishment of integrated and grinding facilities, as well as bulk terminals.
