Car maker Toyota Motors has recalled 11.2 lakh of its cars worldwide due to technical faults. Of these, about 10 lakh vehicles are going to run in America.

Car maker Toyota Motors has recalled 11.2 lakh of its cars worldwide due to technical faults. Of these, about 10 lakh vehicles are going to run in America.

This recall of the company includes models of both Toyota and Lexus manufactured between the years 2020 and 2022. These include the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Lexus ES250, ES300H, ES350, RX350 Highlander and Sienna Hybrid.

Defect found in air bag sensor

The Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor installed in the front passenger seats of these vehicles recalled by Toyota is said to be a defect. According to the company, due to short circuit in the sensor, the air bags will not open in case of an accident.

Additionally, the sensor may be unable to determine the weight of the occupant and may result in the airbag not deploying when required. The sensor also ensures that the airbags do not deploy if there is a small child sitting on the front seat.

The company will change the sensor for free

Dealers will test the OCS sensors in the recalled cars and if any defect is found, the company will replace them without charging the car owner.

The carmaker plans to begin notifying owners about the recall in February. Car owners are also being asked to reach out to the official service centers of both Toyota and Lexus in the US.
