A group of more than 20 American employees of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has accused the company of unlawful discrimination on the basis of race and age. Employees allege that TCS suddenly fired them and replaced them with people who came from India on H1-B visa. The Wall Street Journal has given information about this in one of its reports.
According to the report, since the end of December, at least 22 employees have filed a complaint against TCS with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding this. It is reported that those laid off include Caucasians, Asian-Americans and Hispanic Americans, aged between 40 and 60. Many of these employees have business administration or other advanced degrees.
In response to allegations of discrimination against American professionals, a TCS spokesperson said, 'Allegations that TCS has engaged in illegal discrimination are baseless and misleading. TCS has a strong track record of equal employment opportunity in the US, which reflects the highest levels of values and integrity in our operations.
The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws that prohibit discrimination against job applicants or employees based on race, color, religion, gender, age, disability, and genetic information.
The headquarters of TCS with more than 6 lakh employees is in India. The company receives about half of its revenue from North America, but comparatively the company has a small workforce in the US.
