Relief for Taxpayers: Last Date for Filing Income Tax Extended

If you pay income tax, then there is news of relief for you. The IT department has extended the last date for filing income tax to 30 September 2021. Earlier this date was 31 July. Due to the Corona transition, the government has decided to extend the dates related to filing taxes.

The statement issued by the government said that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns, exercising powers under section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

Change in last dates related to income tax

The last date for filing the Income Tax Return (ITR) of Assessment Year (2021-22) has been extended from 31 July to 30 September. The CBDT has taken this decision under sub-section-1 of section -139 of the Income Tax Act.

Under Section 90E of the law, the report by the accountant can also be submitted by November 30 for any kind of international transaction or involvement in a particular domestic transaction. Previously it was to be deposited by 31 October. At the same time, the last date for finalizing the tax audit report has been increased from 30 September to 31 October.

The last date for issuance of Form-16 has also been increased from 15 June to 15 July 2021. Here Form-16 helps in filing ITR. It is used as proof of income.

The last date of ITR filing to be filed under section 139 (4) of the Bilated ITR Income Tax Act, 1961 has also been increased. It has been increased from 31 December to 31 January 2021. A revised ITR files a taxpayer when it makes a mistake while filing an original tax return.
