Now this Indian agency will decide how safe the cars running in the country are. From October 1, they will start giving safety ratings. Earlier this work was done by two foreign companies. Explain that cars are given a rating from 0 to 5 stars. 0 means unsafe and 5 means completely safe.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari launched the Indian agency Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP or BNCAP) at an event in Delhi on Tuesday. It will crash test the cars at Chakan in Pune to norms set according to Indian conditions.
Earlier, foreign agencies Global NCAP (GNCAP) and Latin NCAP (LNCAP) used to test Indian cars according to their standards and give them safety ratings. This rating does not fit according to Indian conditions in many ways, so the central government started its rating system BNCAP.
On this occasion, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, 'Every year more than 5 lakh accidents happen in the country. About 1.50 lakh people lose their lives in these. People have now become aware about the quality and safety of the vehicle. I think if there is a new alternative then people are ready to accept it.
Gadkari said, “Under Bharat-NCAP, the testing cost of the vehicle in the country will be around Rs 60 lakh, while at the global level this cost is Rs 2.5 crore. That is, now the companies will have to spend 75% less on getting the testing done from the local agency.
With this, customers will get the option to choose a car with better safety. Along with this, competition will increase among companies to make safe cars in the country. They will not even have to send their car abroad for testing.
The Center has formed a monitoring committee. It will analyze the testing of BNCAP. BNCAP will display the Star Rating and Test Results on its website only after the approval of the Monitoring Committee.
