Ahmedabad-based EV startup Matter Energy has launched India's first geared electric bike, Aera. The company says that this is the country's first geared electric bike. It has a 4 speed manual transmission. Let's know what is special in this bike.

Mater introduced this bike at Auto Expo 2023, now it has been introduced in four trim options 4000, 5000, 5000+ and 6000+. The company has priced the Aera 5000 at Rs 1,43,999 lakh and the Aira 5000+ at Rs 1.53,999 lakh (including pre-registration price and Fame-II subsidy). Bookings for both the models have started. The company has not yet shared the price and details of Aera 4000 and Aira 6000+. Customers are also being given 3 years or unlimited kilometers warranty with Mater Era and 3 years of roadside assistance and AMC/Labour coverage.

Mater Era: Battery and Range

A 5 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack option has been given in the e-bike Aera 4000, Aera 5000 and Aera 5000+ variants. These bikes will give a range of 125 km in real world condition on a single full charge. It has been claimed that the battery pack can be fully charged in 5 hours with a normal charger and in 2 hours with a fast charger. The vat of the battery is about 40kg and the Aera e-bike is about 180kg. Whereas, the Aera 6000+ model will get a 6 kWh battery pack option which will give a range of 150 km in real world conditions.

ABS with front and rear disc brakes

The Matter Aera has been given a sharp and sculpted look. It gets LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. Other design elements include a motor guard similar to the engine guard on ICE bikes, split seats, LED taillight and a split grab rail for the pillion rider. The bike will compete with the Revolt RV400 and the Torque Kratos. The electric bike has ABS with front and rear disc brakes.

Matter Era: Motor and Speed

The Mater Aera 5000 and Aira 5000+ are powered by a 10 kW electric motor. It generates power through a Hypershift 4-speed manual gearbox. The company claims that the e-bike achieves a speed of 0-60Kmph in less than 6 seconds. There are three driving modes in the bike. Its top speed is 30 kmph in Eco mode, 70 kmph in City mode and 95 kmph in Sport mode.

Matter Era: Features

The Aera gets 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, park assist, keyless operation, OTA updates, progressive blinkers and a 7-inch touch-compatible LCD display with welcome lights. Along with this, there is also a smartphone application, which will make all the information of the bike available to the users. There are four riding modes in it. It also has a 9-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU).
