New Delhi: Next year, when you file income tax on the new income tax portal, you will have to pay some charges and GST. Under this, on choosing the payment mode, some amount will have to be paid as a convenience fee. Along with this, 18% GST will also have to be paid on the convenience fee. That is, if you pay tax using the payment gateway on the e-filing website, then you will have to pay charges and GST. The Income Tax Department has given this information.

Paying tax from HDFC Bank takes charge

If you are paying tax from HDFC Bank then there will be a transaction charge of Rs.12. Rs 9 for ICICI, Rs 7 for SBI and Axis Bank, and Rs 5 for all banks except Federal Bank. 18% GST will have to be paid along with the charge. Paying tax by credit card will attract 0.85% of tax plus 18% GST.

The payment gateway provides a list of several payment options that taxpayers can use to pay their dues on the site. Net banking, credit cards, debit card, and UPI are other payment methods. If you use net banking or a credit card, you will be charged service fees and an 18% GST.

For instance, if a user uses a credit card to pay Rs 30,000 in tax, a 0.85% convince charge will be applied to Rs 30,000, which works out to Rs 255, and an 18% GST will be applied to Rs 255.

It should be reminded that payment gateway fees will apply when taxpayers make payments via unauthorized bank online banking, credit cards, or UPI. However, there would be no fees if income tax is paid through the NSDL website.
