The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has rejected the government's 2015 petition against the sale of Maggi noodles in favor of Nestle India Limited. FMCG company Nestle has given this information in its stock exchange filing on April 4. In this case, the government had also sought compensation of Rs 284.55 crore and damages of Rs 355.41 crore from Nestle.
Nestle said, 'Union of India, Department of Consumer Affairs had filed a complaint before NCDRC in 2015. In which it was alleged that the company had manufactured and sold dangerous-defective goods and Maggi noodles to the public.
By doing this the company was involved in unfair trade practices. For this reason the government had demanded compensation and damages from Nestle. This demand of the government was now rejected by NCDRC on 2 April 2024. Whose copy was received by the company on April 3.
In June 2015, Maggi was banned in the entire country for six months after allegations of chemicals exceeding the prescribed limit. The company then had to recall and destroy 38,000 tonnes of Maggi noodles. After this the ban was relaxed in November 2015.
Nestle India's net profit increased by 4.38% to Rs 655.61 crore for the quarter ended December 31. Its total expenses in the December quarter increased by 6.11% to Rs 3,636.94 crore.
Nestle India's domestic sales increased by 8.86% to Rs 4,421.79 crore from Rs 4,061.85 crore in the October-December quarter of the last financial year.
