The government will investigate the allegations that lawyers working for Amazon in India have been accused of bribing officials. But the government has a 'zero-tolerance policy regarding corruption. On the other hand, Amazon has started an investigation against corruption under its zero-tolerance policy.

Allegations of bribery to officers

A media website has made public information about corruption against lawyers working in India for the legendary American retailer. The report states that the legal fees paid by the company by hiring an independent lawyer for its work were used to bribe government officials.

Amazon paid legal fees

According to government officials, "Amazon has spent around Rs 8,500 crore in two years as legal fees. It's time to think about where the money is going. The whole system seems to be running on bribery. This is not a good way of doing business. He said this citing the public accounts of some companies of Amazon.

Amazon has sent its senior corporate lawyer on leave

According to the report of media website MorningContext, Amazon has started an investigation against some of its Indian legal representatives. A whistleblower has accused him of bribing government officials in India. The company is said to have sent its senior corporate lawyer on leave.

CAIT demanded the government 

Trader body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has written to Union Minister Piyush Goyal demanding a CBI probe into the allegations. He says the allegations have dented the credibility of the government and are against the government's vision of eliminating corruption at every level.

Investigation of suppression 

The Competition Commission is already under investigation against Amazon for suppressing competition, unfairly keeping prices low on its marketplace, and favoring certain sellers. Apart from this, it has sued Future Group for a deal worth Rs 24,713 crore with Reliance Retail.
