The Union Cabinet today Thursday (February 29) has approved three proposals for the chip plant. These three plants have been approved under 'Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystems in India'. Of the three plants, two will be built in Gujarat and one in Assam. The estimated cost of these three chip plants is Rs 1.26 lakh crore.

Tata Group will build two plants in the joint venture – one each in Gujarat and Assam. CG Power will also build a plant in Gujarta in a joint venture. Work on all three plants will start within 100 days.

Tata's joint venture will build the country's first semiconductor fabrication plant

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that Tata's joint venture will build the country's first semiconductor fabrication plant. After Micron's semiconductor plant in Dholera, a fabrication plant will be built here. American chip company Micron is building a chip assembly plant in Dholera at a cost of Rs 22,516 crore.

The joint venture between Tata Electronics and Taiwan's Power Chip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) will build a chip fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat with an investment of Rs 91,000 crore. PSMC has 6 chip foundries in Taiwan. When the plant is built in Gujarat, it will have the capacity to make 50 thousand wafers every month. This is also the first semiconductor fabrication plant of PSMC.

The plant will be ready in Assam with an investment of Rs 27 thousand crores

Apart from this, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Private Limited (TSAT) of Tata Group will build a plant in Morigaon, Assam with an investment of Rs 27 thousand crore. It will have the capacity to make 4.8 crore chips every day.

CG Power and Renesas will set up a plant with an investment of Rs 7600 crore

Apart from Tata Group, CG Power will build a plant in Sanand, Gujarat in collaboration with Japan's Renesas Electronics Corporation and Thailand's Star Micro Electronics. This semiconductor plant will be built at a cost of Rs 7,600 crore. 1.5 crore chips can be made here every day. This will directly provide employment to 20 thousand people and indirectly around 60 thousand people will get employment.
