The Alphabet CEO admitted that the corporation had become slower as its personnel increased, but said that macroeconomic reasons were beyond his control.
"We want to make sure that as a firm when you have fewer resources than before, you prioritize all the correct things to focus on and your people are extremely productive that they can have an impact on the things they're working on," he added.
"We may be slower to make judgments across the board," Pichai remarked during the event. "You look at everything from beginning to end and figure out how to make the firm 20% more productive," he continued.
Pichai provided explicit examples of how he intends to carry this out. He also gave examples of how to combine YouTube Music and Google Play Music into a single package.
"Sometimes there are places to make progress [where] three individuals are making choices; knowing that and reducing it to two or one improves efficiency by 20%," he said in another example.
In an email to staff in August, Google stated that there will be an "overall evaluation of sales productivity and productivity in general," and that if the following quarter's numbers "do not look up, there will be blood on the streets."
