The debt burden on the Rajasthan government is increasing continuously. The government has given a shocking answer to the question of an MLA in the assembly regarding debt. In response to a question about the action plan for not taking loans if financial resources are available in the future, the government has written that debt is an important source of financial resources of the state government. In view of the availability of financial resources for the development of the state, no action plan for non-borrowing is under consideration.

According to government records, at the end of the financial year on March 31, Rajasthan had a total debt of Rs 4.09 lakh crore. This figure is likely to increase further. The debt on the Rajasthan government is increasing continuously. It is necessary to take loans for bringing big infrastructure projects and development plans. For the development plans, the Gehlot government has taken a loan of more than 60 thousand crores in the first year itself after assuming power. In this, 58 thousand crores have been taken from the market for development works.

During the BJP rule, in 2018, the debt on the state was around Rs 3 lakh crore, which has now crossed the figure of Rs 4 lakh 9 thousand crores. One lakh crore debt increased in two and a half years. A large part of the income of the state government goes to pay the salary, allowances, and loan interest of the government employees. There is no money left with the government for developmental works, so there is no way left except debt.

Loan on all infrastructure projects

The government has taken loans for big projects related to electricity and water. For the drinking water scheme, the government has taken a loan from the Japanese organization Jamika. ADB has given a loan on the plan of Jaipur Metro and water. Apart from this, many projects are also on loan.

While in opposition, every party has been accusing the government of drowning the state in debt citing the increasing debt burden on the state. For more than 20 years, the round of accusations and counter-accusations has been going on. The Congress, while in the opposition, had made many allegations of increasing the debt burden on the state. This has been going on for the last several years.
