Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today erupted over the opposition parties' attacks on the government over the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) scheme. She said that the Modi government will not compromise on transparency and national interest. Opposition parties are accusing the government of selling valuable assets of the country in the name of monetization.
In his tweet, the Finance Minister specifically targeted the main opposition party Congress. She said that working secretly is the working style of Congress. She said that whatever work the Modi government does, it does for the betterment of the country. Sitharaman said her government is committed to implementing visionary and welfare reforms.
On the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) scheme, the government is saying that under this scheme, it wants to monetize those properties, on which a lot has been spent, but full income is not being generated from them. Due to monetization, their maintenance will be done properly and its full cost will be recovered and money can be invested in other schemes benefiting the economy.
The Finance Minister has recently announced the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) to raise Rs 6 lakh crore in four years till the financial year 2022-25. Through this, government assets will be monetized in infrastructure sectors like railways, electricity to roads. They will not be sold but will be given on lease to the private sector for a fixed period of time. In return, the government will get a lumb sum amount, which can be spent on other infrastructure schemes.
