Railways say that they have handed over 500 isolation coaches to the Delhi government, but when it is to be used, it's not decided yet.
A senior Northern Railway official says that 503 coaches have been deployed in 9 stations in Delhi so far. Of these, the maximum 267 coaches have been deployed at Anand vihar terminal. This was followed by 50 coaches at Shakurbasti, 50 coaches at Sarai Rohilla, 21 coaches at Delhi Safdarjung, 13 coaches at Delhi Shahdara, 30 coaches at Adarsh Nagar, 33 coaches at Delhi Cantt railway station, 26 coaches at Patel Nagar and 13 coaches at Tughlakabad. Have been done. More than 8,000 patients can be accommodated in all these coaches.
Some of the special trains that have run between the lockdowns were also being run from the Anand Vihar terminal. But trains have been stopped at this station since June 15 to place the isolation coach. The entire station complex is sealed and no one is allowed to go beyond the police barricade except the railway staff. Even then, not a single patient has come to this station yet.
A senior railway officer says that the state government will make a decision on how to use these coaches. The responsibility of the Railways was to create the necessary infrastructural structure, which has been done. A list of coaches posted at all stations has been sent to the state government. Now they have to decide when to use those coaches.
A senior official associated with the Delhi government also asks that while the temperature here is around 40 degrees, how patients will stay in the iron coaches. Anyway, the railway coach has a temperature of 5 degrees higher than outside. Standing in the scorching sun, these iron cans are meditating like an oven. In such a situation, even small train fans hanging from hot iron sheets are throwing hot air like heat.
