Big Bazaar's vouchers validity left till December 2023 but these are considered expired and cannot be used due to the store went to Reliance Industry. Customers with Big Bazaar coupons have been left high and dry after Reliance Industries purchased the bulk of the hypermarket chain's parent company, Future Retail (FRL).
Several Big Bazaar customers informed TOI that they were unable to redeem their vouchers since Big Bazaar branded outlets were closed in major locations. "We have Big Bazaar tickets worth Rs 6,000 that are good till December 2023, but they cannot be used anymore because the outlets have been taken over by Reliance," said Vipul Dulange, 30.
"Customer service provides a toll-free number and an e-mail address that are both inactive. Big Bazaar should have thought of something for such voucher-holding clients."
Shivani Awalkanthe, who has Rs 4,000 in vouchers, stated, "When I inquired about this, a customer service person informed me that they receive numerous similar emails each day and that many files are pending. They will be unable to act until they get orders."
While an FRL spokesman declined to comment, a top industry official stated that the business still has roughly 30 Big Bazaar outlets in India where customers may redeem certificates.
"However, the money cannot be repaid since FRL's bank accounts are seized," a source explained. "Vouchers were mostly purchased by businesses, who handed them to their employees. The voucher business used to earn roughly Rs 200 crore for the store at its height." After a proposed Rs 24,700-crore merger with Reliance Industries (RIL) fell through last month, FRL is now facing bankruptcy procedures.
