RS Sodhi has resigned as the Managing Director of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF), better known by its brand name 'Amul'. Jayan Mehta, COO, GCMMF, has now been assigned the position. The report states that Mehta has been given only a temporary charge.
According to reports, RS Sodhi's resignation was accepted in a meeting of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (GCMMF) on Monday headed by Chairman Shamalbhai Patel and Vice Chairman Valambhai Humble. GCMMF is the parent firm operating the Amul brand.
In the year 2010, the command of Amul went into the hands of RS Sodhi who was associated with Amul for the last 30 years. He made some changes in the supply chain and launched several new products, which brought Amul back on track. He did his MBA from Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). In 2017, Sodhi was given a 5-year extension as MD of Amul. Sodhi started his career in Amul as Senior Manager Sales. From 2000 to 2004, he held the charge of General Manager Marketing of Amul. Sodhi's full name is Dr. Rupinder Singh Sodhi.
Cooperation Minister Amit Shah had said in October 2022 that Amul would be merged with five other cooperative societies to form the Multi State Cooperative Society (MSCS). In July 2022, Sodhi was elected as the President of the Indian Dairy Association, the apex body of the country's dairy sector.
After the resignation of RS Sodhi, Jayan Mehta, who is going to temporarily take over the post of Managing Director of Amul in his place, was made in-charge earlier also. In the year 2018, when the then MD K. Mehta was appointed in-charge MD even when Rathnam resigned.
