New Delhi: These days employees of public sector telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) are vying for voluntary retirement of VRS. More than 60,000 BSNL and MTNL employees have applied for VRS within just 4 days.

Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash told ABP News that the VRS scheme for BSNL and MTNL employees has met with unprecedented success. More than 60,000 BSNL and MTNL employees have applied for VRS so far.

He said that the scheme was opened on November 4, in which more than 57 thousand employees of BSNL have been applied so far, while more than 3000 employees of MTNL have given approval for VRS. Anshu Prakash said that a target has been set to give VRS to 83,000 BSNL employees, while the target has been set to give VRS to 15000 employees of MTNL.

Significantly, there are about one and a half lakh employees in BSNL, out of which about 100000 employees are eligible for VRS scheme. The scheme was opened on November 4, which will be open to employees until December 3. This scheme is open to all regular and permanent employees of BSNL and MTNL whose age is 50 years or more.

It is worth noting that only last month, the cabinet announced revival package of 69 thousand crore for BSNL and MTNL. This package also includes giving VRS to employees. After giving VRS to the employees, BSNL and MTNL will also be merged.
