The Bombay High Court has dismissed the plea of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh's against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons. In this petition, Deshmukh had requested for the summons issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate and quashing the entire proceedings in the case.
This was the third raid by the CBI on the premises of former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh. Earlier. CBI has also reached Anil Deshmukh's ancestral residence to find him. But, they did not know anything. In fact, despite summons from the investigating agency, Deshmukh has been continuously avoiding appearance.
Earlier on October 13, Anil Deshmukh had told the Bombay High Court that the action initiated by the Enforcement Directorate against him in the alleged money laundering case is based on the claims of persons who are themselves accused of heinous crimes like murder and extortion.
Deshmukh, who failed to appear before the ED, had told the court through his counsel that he wanted to appear before the probe agency, but the agency had created an image of adopting a non-cooperative attitude against him.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had launched the probe against Anil Deshmukh and others after the CBI registered an FIR against Deshmukh on April 21 this year on charges of corruption and abuse of official position. The CBI had registered the FIR after a preliminary inquiry (PI) into the corruption and misconduct allegations levelled against Deshmukh by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. Param Bir Singh is facing charges of extortion which is being probed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
