BMC Commissioner – We have No Experience in Dealing with Storms, Asked Tips from Odisha

Cyclone Nisarga is moving fast towards Mumbai, in the afternoon, the storm hit Alibaug in Maharashtra. At that time the wind speed was 93 kilometers per hour, whereas as soon as the storm came, high waves started to rise in the sea and trees started to crumble. The Brihanmumbai Metropolitan Municipality (BMC) has asked for tips from Odisha to deal with the storm. BMC Commissioner IS Chahal said no storm came in Mumbai for 129 years, so we do not have that much experience. In Odisha, storms keep coming every day and they are skilled in dealing with storms, so we consulted them, whereas the Odisha government has also advised BMC.

BMC Commissioner IS Chahal said, 'Odisha has advised us to keep 20 laborers in each police station and provide them with essential items for cutting the trees. If large hoardings or trees fall due to the storm, then they should be removed immediately and this will not cause trouble in the rescue operation. At the same time, NDRF Commandant Kumar Raghavendra said that the threat has not yet been averted, we are facing a double challenge, were fighting with Corona earlier and now we have to fight with Nisarga. The storm has definitely changed the route, but is on our track, Indian Meteorological Department provides very accurate information.
