Former MP and BJP candidate Neeraj Shekhar filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday for the by-election for a Rajya Sabha seat. He was also accompanied by SP Legislative Council members Ravi Shankar Singh and CP Chandra. Many prominent people were present during the nomination of Neeraj Shekhar, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP state president Swatantradev Singh.

People started gathering at the BJP Legislature Party office in Vidhan Bhavan for nomination from noon. Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Suresh Khanna were also present during the nomination. Former SP MLC CP Chandra and Ravi Shankar Singh were also present in the nomination of Rajya Sabha candidate Neeraj Shekhar.

Neeraj Shekhar, son of former Prime Minister Chandrasekhar, has recently resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha and SP and joined BJP. Neeraj Shekhar was associated with Samajwadi Party for a long time.

Annoyed by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav not being given a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections, Neeraj recently joined BJP while resigning from Rajya Sabha. The BJP has declared Neeraj Shekhar as its candidate from Uttar Pradesh quota for the by-election. Shekhar's term will remain until November 2020 after he is elected to the Rajya Sabha.
