A major accident has occurred in the Motihari district of Bihar after a boat capsized on Sunday afternoon. Here 22 people have drowned after the boat capsized in the Sikarhana river. A search operation is being conducted by divers. One body has been found so far. Shikarganj police station SHO said that till now the body of a girl child has been taken out from the river who has been identified as Chandni Kumari. According to the information received, there were 20 to 25 people on the boat. The boat capsized near the village of Godhiya.
On hearing the incident of the boat capsizing, there was chaos in the nearby village. A large number of villagers have reached the banks of the river with their families crying. Local divers are continuously engaged in the search operation. On getting information about the incident, the police have also reached the spot. The people present there claim that the man who steered the boat had come out while swimming.
People told that this accident happened due to excessive riding on the boat. There were 22 people on the small boat, while it had a seating capacity of 10 to 12 people. There was also a strong flow of water in the river, so as soon as the boat overturned, people went far with the flow in a few seconds. Most of the victims of the accident had gone across the river to harvest fodder for the cattle.
This is not the first time that such an incident has left the entire state in shock. On the 17th of this month, girls who had gone to bathe in the river in the Banka district of Bihar drowned in water. Two girls were rescued but the bodies of three girls were found after a long search operation. The good thing that day was that when the girls were drowning, some people were present there, who jumped and saved two.
Similarly, on October 4, 2019, seven people were killed when a boat capsized in Bihar's Katihar district. That day also due to negligence, more than 40 people were boarded in the boat. All these people were returning after seeing a boating competition.
