Bihar chief secretary Arun Kumar Singh on Friday passed away at a hospital in Patna due to COVID-19 complications. Singh, who was a senior IAS officer, was admitted to a hospital after testing positive for coronavirus and was undergoing treatment. He was appointed as the chief secretary of Bihar in February this year, days after Janata Dal-United supremo Nitish Kumar won the assembly elections in the state.

Singh, a 1985-batch officer, had replaced senior IAS officer Deepak Kumar. Bihar currently has 1,00,822 active coronavirus cases and so far 2,480 lives have been lost in the state due to Covid-19.

Over 3.86 lakh cases reported in India:

India recorded 3,86,452 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. This is the highest single-day spike in the cases since the pandemic began last year. According to the Union Health Ministry, as many as 3,498 deaths and 2,97,540 recoveries were also recorded in the last 24 hours. The cumulative count of the COVID-19 cases has gone up to 1,87,62,976. The total active cases of the infection in India have now mounted to 31,70,228. As many as 2,08,330 people have succumbed to the disease so far. A total of 1,53,84,418 people have recovered from the disease till now.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 28,63,92,086 samples tested for COVID-19 up to April 29. Of these 19,20,107 samples tested on Thursday across India. The total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered stand at 15,22,45,179, informed the Union Health Ministry.

Delhi: Over 24,000 cases reported in the last 24 hours

On Friday, 24,235 coronavirus cases reported in the state. Meanwhile, 25,615 people recovered and 395 died. So far, 11.22 lakh people infected here. Of these, 10.08 lakh have cured, while 15,772 patients lost their lives. Currently, there are 97,977 patients who are undergoing treatment.
