The bodies of the 28-year-old youths were handed over to the wrong family by a hospital in the Municipal Body of Mumbai, after which the relatives of the deceased created a ruckus in the hospital. Family members of the deceased also alleged that his kidney was removed during a post-mortem.
Hospital Morgue Personnel have been Suspended
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Monday that the mistake was made by the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Corporation Sarvassadhun Rugnalaya on Sunday. Since then, hospital morgue personnel have been suspended and an investigation has been started into the case. The BMC rejected charges of evacuating the kidney during a post-mortem and said strict action would be taken against those found guilty. The hospital handed over the body of Ankush Sarvade (28), who died during treatment, to Hemant Digambar’s family after he was injured in a road accident. Digambar committed suicide. This hospital is also known as Sayan Hospital.
Post-mortems of both bodies were conducted on the same Day
After the mistake, Sarvade’s family demonstrated in the hospital. BMC said that Sarvade was admitted to the hospital on August 28 and was put on a life support system after an operation. He died on Sunday morning. He said that Digambar was brought to the hospital in a dead state. The BMC conducted a post-mortem on both bodies on Sunday and both bodies were kept in the hospital morgue.
A Dead Body was Cremated
Sarvade’s family was called at around 4 o’clock to get the body. Meanwhile, Digambar’s family identified Sarvade’s body as Digambar and after completing all the processes took the body from the police signature. It has been reported that the mistake was discovered when members of Sarvade’s family arrived to retrieve his body. By that time, Digambar’s family had cremated Sarvade. BMC said later that Sarvade’s family members created a ruckus in the hospital but that police took control of the situation.
