Bengaluru Police has arrested four men and two women after a video of a woman being raped and tortured in a three-story building in Ramamurthy Nagar, Bangalore East went viral in Northeast India and Bangladesh.

The gang-rape victim and all the accused are from Bangladesh. The victim was brought to Bangalore allegedly under human trafficking and the incident of gang rape took place about six days ago.

Who are the accused?

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant tweeted, "The police team has also been sent to a neighboring state to locate the victim so that she can be included in the investigation. According to the information so far, all these same groups and is believed to be from Bangladesh. The victim is also a Bangladeshi, she was brought to India under smuggling and was harassed and subjected to cruelty over money matters."

Another officer, on the condition of anonymity, said that the video was recorded by the accused, which was later shared online.

The accused include Rakhimuddin Islam Sagar (23), Mohammad Babu Sahik (30), Hridoy Babu (25) from Bengaluru, while Hakeem (23) is a resident of Hyderabad. The police have not yet given the names of the women accused.

The accused tried to escape

On Friday morning, around 6.30 pm, when the police team took the accused to the place where the incident took place, two of them tried to escape.

Bengaluru East Deputy Commissioner of Police SD Sharanappa told reporters, "Hridoy Babu and Rakhimuddin Islam Sagar tried to attack our people and ran away. The police had to fire shots. They got shot in the leg."

Kamal Kant told, "Our team is bringing the woman from Kerala."

Asked if it was a case related to human trafficking, Pant said, "We have a gang rape case right now. We are looking at it from the same angle right now. We will see the rest of the cases later."
