Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Kolkata today to take stock of the devastation of the storm in West Bengal. He took an aerial tour with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankar. During this, Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh has demanded to send the relief amount directly to the account of the affected people from PM Narendra Modi.
With the demand of Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh, another political storm may arise in the state. Dilip Ghosh has said to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that instead of giving relief package to the state government, direct compensation should be sent to the account of the victims, now it has to be seen how CM Mamta Banerjee reacts to this.
In cities of Odisha and West Bengal, Amphan has wreaked havoc. The situation is so serious that PM Narendra Modi himself had to leave for a tour of the states. This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first visit during the lockdown, in which he will take stock of the situation in Odisha besides West Bengal.
CM Mamata Banerjee herself admitted that the West Bengal has seen such devastation after many years and such a storm came to West Bengal two centuries ago. Mamta said that such a storm came 283 years ago in 1737. Many areas have been destroyed due to the storm, communication has been disrupted. Due to the cyclone, the south and north 24 parganas have been completely destroyed.
CM Mamta Banerjee says that there has been a huge loss in Kolkata as well. About one lakh crore rupees have been lost due to storm, whereas more than 80 people have died and more than 5500 houses have been destroyed.
