Bengal By-election: Priyanka Tibrewal to File Nomination from Bhowanipore Today

BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal will file a nomination today for the by-election in Bhowanipore, a high-profile assembly seat in West Bengal. Priyanka Tibrewal will face the CM of the West Bengal and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. Mamta Banerjee has already filed her nomination for the Bhowanipore seat two days back. In the assembly elections, Mamta had contested from Nandigram seat, but she was defeated by Suvendu Adhikari of BJP. Mamta needs to win the election from Bhowanipore to remain the CM of Bengal.

On Sunday, Priyanka Tibrewal has started her campaign. Earlier on Saturday, Priyanka went to the Kalighat temple in Kolkata to pray. After praying at the Kalighat temple, Priyanka took a jibe from Mamata Banerjee in post-election violence. Also, Priyanka said she prayed to Goddess Kali to protect the people from the injustices perpetrated by the government. Priyanka said her war was against the ruling party, which encouraged injustice and violence against the people. In addition, the BJP candidate has expressed fears of a lack of transparency even before the election. Let us tell you that Kalighat is the house of CM Mamata Banerjee and this area comes under the Bhowanipore assembly constituency.

Who is Priyanka Tibrewal?

Priyanka has been the legal adviser to BJP leader Babul Supriyo. Inspired by the policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Priyanka joined the BJP in August 2014. In 2015, Priyanka Tibrewal contested the Kolkata Municipal Council election from Ward No. 58 (Entlee) as a candidate for the BJP but was defeated by Swapan Samdar of Trinamool Congress. During his six years at BJP, she held many key positions. Also, in the month of August 2020, she was appointed Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in West Bengal.

Voting will be held on 30 September

The Bhowanipore assembly seat will be held on September 30. However, the counting of votes for the elections will take place on October 3. Also, the Election Commission has imposed restrictions on pre-and post-nomination processions for the by-elections. For the campaign, the presence of 50 percent of people has been allowed.
