RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das gets Extension of Service for 3 years till December 2024

The Modi government at the Center has given the benefit of extension of service to the Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das for 3 years. He will now retire in December 2024.

The Modi government at the Center has given the benefit of extension of service to the Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das for 3 years. He will now retire in December 2024. Their extension of service will be applicable from next 10 December. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the reappointment of Shaktikanta Das as Governor of RBI for a further period of three years with effect from December 10, 2021, or till further orders (whichever is earlier), an official said.

Let us inform you that Shaktikanta Das was appointed as the 25th Governor of RBI on 11 December 2018. Then his term was for three years. However, in an official order issued by the government, it has been said that the government is reappointing Das as the governor of RBI. He is being appointed for three years from 10 December 2021.

Decision taken in a meeting of the Appointments Committee

According to media reports, this decision has been taken in a meeting of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. However, the meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved this decision late on Thursday night. Prior to 2018, Shaktikanta Das was the Economic Affairs Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and was appointed as the head of the central bank on December 11, 2018, for a period of three years. With the second term of three years, Shaktikanta Das will now be the Governor of RBI till December 2024.

Shaktikanta Das has vast experience in various areas of governance and has held important positions in the Central and State Governments in the areas of Finance, Taxation, Industry, Infrastructure etc. However, he holds a master's degree in history from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University.
