Banaras Hindu University: National Women’s Commission asked for the Report of Suspension of Professor

The case of cancellation of suspension of a professor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Sexual harassment case has been gaining ground. In this case, the National Commission for Women has summoned reports from the Vice-Chancellor of BHU, taking suo moto cognizance. Earlier, the BHU administration sent SK Chaubey, a professor in the Department of Zoology, facing charges of molestation after a meeting with officials on Sunday.

National Women's Commission (NCW) Chairman Rekha Sharma said in a letter to BHU Vice-Chancellor Rakesh Bhatnagar on Monday that she should report the matter. He also said that universities should also provide the report of their Internal Complaints Committee to the Commission in this matter. Professor Choubey was suspended for sexual harassment at BHU, but then his suspension was revoked. Against this, the students staged a sit-in demanding the dismissal of the accused professor.

What is the whole matter?
In fact, on behalf of BHU's Department of Zoology, during the educational tour in Pune, Professor SK Choubey was accused of sexually assaulting female students. Even after being found guilty in the investigation of the case, the university reinstated him a few days ago. On getting this information, the outraged students started a sit-in demonstration late Saturday evening demanding the dismissal of the access professor at the main gate, which went on all night. Throughout the night, dozens of students sat under the main gate. On Sunday too, BHU administration officials tried to talk to the girl students, although the assurance of reconsideration of the matter by the BHU administration remained unimpressed.

The university continued to hold meetings throughout the day on this matter. Later in the evening, the university spokesperson said in his statement that the university administration has decided that the matter will once again be placed before the Executive Council and until the Council considers this, Professor SK Choubey is long Ordered to go on leave. Apart from this, the statement of the university also said that BHU's administration is sensitive to any incidents of gender discrimination or harassment on the university campus and such incidents will not be tolerated.
