Bajrang Poonia Honored with Khel Ratna Award

India wrestler Bajrang Poonia was awarded Khel Ratna by Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju on Wednesday. This award is India's highest honor in the field of sports. 25-year-old Poonia has been given this award for her consistently good performance in the field of wrestling. The dream of every player is to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honor by the President in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. But to qualify for the Olympics, Wrestler Bajrang decided to sacrifice this precious moment of his life.

Bajrang, who was selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award on August 16, did not come to receive the Khel Ratna by President Ram Nath Kovind on August 29, the National Sports Day. He was busy in the World Championship to be held in Kazakhstan. It may be known that Bajrang had said at that time, 'He wanted to come for the award, but then the thought has been received that training from Russia to Delhi would be interrupted. The award will also be received later but the World Championship will not come later. He will receive the award after the World Championship by Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju.

Bajrang Poonia said that the wrestling world will see him in a new look at the Tokyo Olympics. Bajrang is one of India's biggest medal hopes at the Tokyo Olympics. 'Leg defense' has been his weakness and his opponents have always taken advantage of it. Many experts believe that this weakness in the Olympics may outweigh them. Despite this weakness, he became the world's number one wrestler in the 65 kg category in 2018. He said, "My coach says that once I get on the mat again, I should come to shock my opponent." I will not tell what I am doing but you will get to see a new Bajrang on the mat in Tokyo. He said," People will say that the game of Bajrang has changed completely. Whether it is technology, I have worked on everything."
