Badminton player Saina Nehwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Saina Nehwal, who brightened India's name in the badminton world, is now going to start her political career. Nehwal joined the party in the presence of National General Secretary Arun Singh at the BJP office on Wednesday. Her sister Chandranshu has also joined BJP. During this time she also took membership of the party. Before 29 year old Saina Nehwal, wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Babita Phogat also joined BJP. At the same time, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir also joined BJP, he is currently an MP from East Delhi.

After joining BJP, Saina Nehwal and her sister Chandranshu met party president JP Nadda. Last year, Saina Nehwal also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign towards women's empowerment. During Diwali, a campaign named 'Bharat Ki Laxmi' was launched by PM Modi, who Nehwal applauded, saying 'Thank you PM Modi for the campaign to empower and honor women'.

Saina Nehwal was born on 19 March 1990 in Hisar, Haryana. Nehwal became world number one in the World Badminton Rankings on 23 May 2015. Nehwal is the first Indian female badminton player to achieve this milestone
