New Delhi: Nothing can be said when your luck will turn. Last year, the fortunes of 81-year-old Kanta Prasad and his wife Badami Devi, who run Baba Ka Dhaba in Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi, changed their fortunes after a video went viral. He had come on top trend on Twitter and people used to stand in line to eat food at his dhaba. He also got financial help from many places. Due to which Kanta Prasad had opened the restaurant. Now news is coming that this restaurant of Kanta Prasad has been closed in lockdown. Now Kanta Prasad has returned to his old place and is waiting for the gathering of customers at Baba Ka Dhaba as before.
According to a report, the restaurant of Kanta Prasad, who runs Baba's Dhaba, has closed in February. So they have now returned to the dhaba. But earning is not as before. After the video went viral last year, his earnings had increased 10 times from here. Baba became famous on the Internet.
Kanta Prasad said that due to Corona in Delhi, his old dhaba had to be closed for 17 days, due to which sales have been affected. They have to face poverty again. Kanta Prasad says, 'Due to the ongoing Covid lockdown at our dhaba, there has been a decline in the daily footfall. Our daily sales have come down from Rs 3,500 before the lockdown to Rs 1,000 now. This is not enough for our family to survive.
Last year, after the video of Baba's dhaba went viral, Kanta Prasad got financial help of several lakhs, due to which he opened a new restaurant, added a new floor to his house, repaid his old debt. Buy a smartphone for yourself and your kids. However, now the good days are over. Rice, pulses and two types of vegetables are currently being available in Baba's Dhaba.
Kanta Prasad opened his new restaurant with much fanfare in December. Where Prasad used to make rotis at the dhaba, he now monitors in the restaurant. While his wife and two sons used to sit in the shining counter and take payment. Two cooks and a waiter were engaged in serving the customers. After the initial enthusiasm, the number of customers started coming down and the cost of the restaurant started increasing.
Prasad said, "Invested 5 lakhs in the restaurant and hired three people. The monthly expenditure of the restaurant was around 1 lakh. 35,000 rupees had to be paid as rent. The salary of three employees was given for Rs 36,000. 15,000 used to go for ration, electricity and water. However, the average monthly sales never exceeded Rs 40,000. So there was loss. I think we were given the wrong advice to open a new restaurant.
YouTuber Gaurav Vasan made Baba Ka Dhaba popular. Vasan had made a dhaba video and put it on YouTube. However, Kanta Prasad later filed a complaint against Vasan and his associates for allegedly misappropriating the donated money and cheating. They alleged that Vasan had knowingly shared bank accounts of himself, his family and friends. The amount received as financial aid was rigged.
