Born into a family of traditional musicians of the Langa community in Raneri village of Baap tehsil of Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, Lakha Khan was trained at an early age by his father Tharu Khan and later by her uncle Mohammad Khan in the Multan school of Manganiyars. His public exposure to music began in the late 60s and 70s. Under the guidance of folk-art penetrator Komal Kothari, he won the hearts of the audience by exhibiting his art in many countries of the world including Europe, the UK, Russia, and Japan.

The only artist to play the bowled Sindhi stringed

Lakha Khan is the only artist in the Manganiar community to play the pulsar Sindhi sarangi. Lakha Khan, who has sung in six languages ​​including Hindi, Marwari, Sindhi, Punjabi, and Multani, has been awarded several times in the country and abroad including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Lakha Khan mastered the complex instrument Sindhi Sarangi. Lakha Khan was awarded the Marwar Ratna Award in the year 2017.

Lakha Khan has also been honoured with the Marwar Ratna Award in the year 2017. He was awarded the Maharaja Vijay Singh Samman under the Marwar Ratna for his remarkable contribution to the field of Rajasthani folk music. Earlier in July 2009, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for the year 2008 was awarded by President Pratibha Patil.

He has performed various well-known artists including Padma Bhushan Zakir Hussain (Tabla player), Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan (Sarangi player), Padma Bhushan Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Mohan Veena player), Padma Shri Sakar Khan (Kamaycha player), and Pandit Krishna Mohan Bhatt (Sitar player). He has exhibited his art along with many other famous artists. Lakha Khan has also exhibited his art in Jaipur Literature Festival and Jodhpur Riff Festival.
