Auto Sector Crisis: Pause on Truck Sales after Car-Bikes, Declined by 60%

India's auto industry is going through a phase of lethargy. After cars and bikes, there has been a big decline in the sales of trucks. According to the latest figures, truck sales have come down by 60 percent on an annual basis in August. At the same time, sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M & HCV) trucks of big manufacturing company Ashok Leyland have fallen by 70 percent.

Similarly, the sale of trucks of Tata Motors has also seen a decrease of more than 50 percent. Volvo Itcher Makers and Mahindra & Mahindra have also come in the grip of sluggish sales. The sales of these companies have come down when the trucks with higher tonnage (more than 49 tonnes) capacity are being exempted. Despite this, the crisis is increasing due to decrease in demand.

According to Ashok Leyland's August report, the company sold a total of 9,231 units in August, down from 17,386 units sold during the same month in 2018. The company's freight carriers – light, medium and heavy trucks – sold 7,432 units in August, compared to 15,945 units in August 2018. On the other hand, bus sales were also slow. Last month, 1,799 units were sold, while in August 2018 1,441 units were sold. If you talk about Tata Motors, in August 2018, 12,715 trucks were sold, which has now come down to 5 thousand 340 units.

Auto Sector Crisis Deepens
The crisis of the auto sector is getting deeper. The country's largest auto maker company Maruti Suzuki's Manesar and Gurugram plants will remain closed on 7 and 9 September. This decision has been taken by Maruti at a time when the company's sales are continuously falling. Due to this, heavy production has also been cut by Maruti. Other companies are also reducing production. Because of this, layoffs are also happening.
