Australia’s Formula 1 Grand Prix Cancelled due to Coronavirus Threat

Australia's Formula 1 Grand Prix has been canceled. The main reason behind the cancellation of this event is that one member of the McLaren racing team was found positive in the COVID-19 test, which led the team to pull out of the event. In an online statement, Australia Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) stated that Formula 1 had decided to postpone its programs at the event. It was to be held in Albert Park, Melbourne and it has been canceled altogether.

The statement stated, "Following this decision and advice from the Head Health Officer of the Victorian Government Department of Human and Health Services in the morning, the Grand Prix Corporation of Australia reported that Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix has been canceled."

After this, 7 members of the racing teams were also tested and the results of which were negative. Apart from this, another person who is not a member of any racing team has also been tested for the virus and the result is being awaited. "For this, the safety of everyone, including our people, our partners, event partners and members of the local community is our first priority," AGPC said.

Earlier in the day, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews had stated that keeping in mind the public health and safety, the event would have to be carried out without an audience, thus preventing the virus from spreading in society. The organizers of the program said that all ticket holders will get the full money back.
