Every Indian still remembers the year 2016 as in this year, the Indian government announced demonetization in the country. This was the most important step taken by the Government of India to curb black money. Talking about the whole of India, many people were very happy with this decision of the government, but there were some people who were against this decision. Demonetization was announced by PM Modi on the night of 8 November 2016. Then from the next day, every person spent the whole day in lines to change their notes.

During this time, the opposition also targeted the Modi government. This demonetization was also termed as a failure of the Modi government by the opposition. But according to many experts, this step proved to be successful to a great extent. After the demonetization, the government urged people to give more importance to digital payment to deal with the currency problem in the country. Since that time, the trend of digital payment in India has increased to a great extent. Today, there are many apps in India for digital payments that transfer money in just few minutes. But the company that was benefited the most during that time was Paytm. At the time of the demonetization in 2016, the Paytm was quite popular among Indians. The benefit of which was also seen in the company's revenue that year. Paytm went from 125 million wallet customers before demonetization to 185 million three months later.

After the announcement of Demonetization, Paytm had used a photo of PM Modi in his advertisement without prior permission and praised him for this bold step, but later the government issued a notice and sought a response from the company.

What does Law state?

According to Section 3 of the Act, no person shall use or continue to use any name or emblem for the purpose of any trade, business, calling or profession without the prior permission of the central government. The law provides that "any person who violates the provisions of Section 3 shall be punishable with fine, which may exceed to Rs 500".

Now private companies are using PM Modi's Photo for advertisements:

In this difficult time of the coronavirus, the country's economy is currently going through a difficult phase. PM Modi had announced a package of 20 lakh crores and requested to give more attention to the products manufactured in India, which was also named as self-reliant India Mission.

As soon as this mission was announced, many private companies have started using PM Modi's picture in their personal advertisement. In this way, it is a crime to use the picture of the Prime Minister in private advertisements without permission, but due to the lesser amount of penalty in it, many private companies are using it for their own benefit.
