The team of the Central Election Commission held an important press conference in Lucknow on Thursday regarding the UP assembly elections 2022. The commission said that the representatives of all the parties have talked about holding elections on time. This time the voting time has been extended by one hour. At the same time, the Commission is trying to ensure maximum participation of senior citizens, differently-abled people, women and new voters in the elections.
Efforts are being made by the Election Commission to prevent the spread of corona, as well as special care should be taken especially for the differently-abled people and senior citizens at the time of voting, so that these people can be saved from any possibility of spreading the infection. In such a situation, senior citizens above 80 years of age, Divyang and Corona affected voters will get the facility of postal ballot option sitting at home. During this, full care will be taken of transparency and voters' privacy.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra responded to a question about public meetings amid the Corona crisis by saying, "We have spoken to the Health Secretary of Uttar Pradesh." When the dates of the assembly elections will be announced, then the guidelines will be issued because of the cases of corona infection. Also, elections will be conducted between Corona guidelines.
Elections are going to be held in 5 states ie Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur including Uttar Pradesh next year. Uttar Pradesh is the largest state in all five. The term of the Legislative Assembly will end in March in all five states. According to the sources, it is believed that the dates for the assembly elections will be announced in January. After this, voting will be held in February.
