Punjab Polls 2022: Polling Booths to be Built for Elderly in their Homes, EC made Special Arrangements
After the initiative to make pink booths for women, this time the Election Commission has made special arrangements for the elderly. They will not have to go to the polling stations, BLOs will conduct the polling by making temporary polling booths at their homes. The ballot papers will be sealed with complete secrecy immediately after voting which will be included in the counting of votes later. This facility will be available to the elderly above 80 years.

District Election Officer and DC Gurpreet Singh Khaira said that this year a total of 19 lakh 40 thousand 90 voters will vote in the district on February 20. These include 10 lakh 23 thousand 975 male voters and 9 lakh 20 thousand 47 female voters. Of these, the number of people above 80 years is 49556. Of these, 40258 are in the age group of 80 years to 89 years, 8545 from 90 years to 99 years and 753 above the age of 100 years. He said that according to the instructions of the Election Commission, special arrangements have been made for the elderly voters to vote more and more. Arrangements will be made to cast votes in their homes and special duty has been imposed on the administration teams.
Rajesh Sharma, Returning Officer and SDM-2 of Attari Vidhan Sabha said that online applications were sought till January 30 for the elderly voters to vote at their homes. The BLOs will go to the homes of the elderly voters who have applied, twice to vote. If the first time is not found in the house, the second time BLO will be sent for their services. The BLO will carry the 12D form along with the representatives of the mild candidates. A polling booth will be set up at home and elderly voters will cast their vote on the ballot paper with the secrecy of their vote. After sealing the envelope containing the vote, it will be deposited directly in the treasury office. On the day of counting, the envelopes of these votes will be brought from the Treasury office and included in the counting of votes.
