Asian Boxing Championship Pooja Rani Wins Gold Medal; Three Boxers including Mary Kom Won Silver Medals

Pooja Rani won her second consecutive gold in the 75 kg weight at the ongoing Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai. Three boxers, including 6-time world champion Mary Kom, won the silver medal. The Indian women's team has won 10 medals in this tournament. Which includes one gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medal. Apart from Mary Kom, Lalbuatsaihi won silver medals in 64 kg weight and Anupama in weight above 81 kg.

Pooja Rani won the fourth medal in the tournament

Pooja Rani, who won the only gold medal in women, defeated Mavluda Moldonova of Uzbekistan 5–0 in the final. She had earlier won the gold medal in this championship in 2019. This time she has won four medals. Pooja won Bronze in 2015 and Silver Medal in 2012.

Lalbuatsaihi won the silver medal in the first Asian championship

Lalbuatsaihi was defeated 3–2 by Milana Safronova of Kazakhstan in the final. She has won the gold medal in the 2019 World Police Games. For the first time represented the country in the Asian Championships.

Mary Kom won the second silver medal in the tournament

Mary Kom, who has won gold in the Asian Championship 5 times, could not fulfill her dream of winning the sixth gold. She was defeated 3–2 by two-time world champion Nazim Kazabe in the final. Mary Kom has won the silver medal for the second time, taking part in the Asian Championship for the seventh time. She has Gold and two Silver Medals on her name. Mary Kom and Laishram Sarita Devi have won five gold medals each at the Asian Championships. They won the gold medal in 2003, 2005, 2010, 2012 and 2017, while 2008 and the silver medal this year.

Prize money has been increased

The special thing about this year is that there has been a huge increase in the prize money of the championship. The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has allocated US $ 4,00,000 prize money for this championship. The gold medal winners in the men's and women's categories are being awarded USD 10,000 while the silver and bronze medal winners are being awarded USD 5,000 and USD 2,500 respectively.

Eight Indian Boxers won Bronze Medals

Eight Indian boxers Simranjit Kaur (60 kg), Vikas Krishna (69 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69 kg), Jasmine (57 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (64 kg), Monika (48 kg), Sweety (81 kg) and Varinder Singh (60kg) had to face defeat in the semi-finals. All of them won the Bronze Medal for the country.

Apart from India, 17 countries are participating

150 boxers from 17 countries including India, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Philippines and Kazakhstan participated in the Asian Boxing Championships being held in Dubai.
