Comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachia has been granted bail by the Mumbai Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Bharti and Harsh on Saturday on charges of taking cannabis. Both were presented in the NDPS court on Sunday itself.
Orders to be sent to Judicial Custody by 4 December
The court ordered them to be sent to judicial custody by December 4, saying the bail application would be heard on Monday. Bharti was kept in Kalyan jail and Harsh was kept in Taloja jail. The NCB had on Sunday sought Bharti’s judicial custody and Harsh’s remand, but the court sent both to judicial custody.
Court Denied for Remand
The court had said that the hemp was found in Bharti’s house and the office was in small quantities. This is just a use case, so police custody is not required. The court also said that under the sections under which both have been arrested, there is a provision for punishment of only one year, so remand is not necessary.
Drug Finance-Transportation Streams against Harsh
Section 27A of the Narcotics Act-1986 has been imposed on Harsh. That is, the streams of finance and transportation of drugs have been imposed. On Saturday, 86.5 grams of hemp was found at Bharti’s home and office in NCB Raid. She confessed to taking cannabis with her husband Harsh.
Interrogation in front of drug peddlers
According to sources, the NCB also questioned Bharti and Harsh in front of a drug paddler, after which both confessed to taking cannabis. The drug peddler took the names of Bharti and Harsh during interrogation on Friday. They were later raided in their homes and offices in Andheri, Lokhandwala and Versova on Saturday. Staff at Bharti’s house were also questioned.
Arjun Rampal and many Celebrities Questioned in Drugs Case
On November 20, Arjun Rampal reached the NCB office in a case related to drugs in Bollywood, where he was questioned for several hours. Arjun was interrogated 2 days before his live-in partner Gabriella Demetriades. Rampal’s friend Paul Bartel was also arrested and is in judicial custody until 25 November. Apart from these, NCB also arrested actress Riya Chakraborty. She is currently out on bail. Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh have also been questioned.
