Army Chief-General MM Naravane Meets Britain’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen Sir Carter

Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane is on a four-day visit to Britain and Italy to discuss measures to strengthen defence ties with the two nations.

Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane is on a four-day visit to Britain and Italy to discuss measures to strengthen defence ties with the two nations. During his visit to the UK, he met Sir Mark Carlton Smith – Chief of General Staff of the British Army. Both discussed issues of joint military cooperation. Earlier, Naravane met UK's Chief of Defence Staff Gen Sir Nicholas Carter. He is also scheduled to meet UK Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace.

Earlier, General Naravane inspected the guard of honor by the Grenadier Guards at the Horse Guards Parade Square of the British Army. The Army Chief will visit various units of the British Army and hold talks on topics of mutual interest. During the second leg of his Europe tour on Wednesday and Thursday, General Naravane will hold important discussions with the Chief of Defense Staff and the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army.

Naravane to inaugurate Indian Army Memorial in Italy:

During his two-day visit to Italy, the Army chief will inaugurate the Indian Army Memorial built-in memory of thousands of Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the independence of Italy during World War II. The monument will inaugurated in Monte Casino in the province of Frosinone. According to the Indian Defense Ministry, about 50 thousand Indian soldiers were martyrs for the independence of Italy. The supreme sacrifice of the soldiers has been remembered in detail in the book published by the UK-based Commonwealth War Grave Commission on Indian warriors.
