Arjun Kapoor, Sister Anshula Raise Rs 1 Cr to Help People amid Pandemic

Bollywood star Arjun Kapoor and his sister Anshula Kapoor's online celebrity fundraising platform, 'Fankind, has been silently working all through the pandemic to help people across India. The brother-sister duo raised over Rs. 1 crore and helped over 30,000 people and their families in need.

The 'Ishaqzaade' star said, "The pandemic has made us stare at an abyss of suffering. It has made us all step forward and help as many people as possible in our own, unique way. Anshula and I have tried to contribute through Fankind. I'm happy that we have helped about 30,000 people pan India and raised 1 crore to help aid those in crisis."

Arjun Kapoor added, "From monthly ration kits to hot meals, to cash in hand for migrant workers, to providing hygiene kits for COVID-19 prevention, the initiative has managed to touch the lives of many and hopefully has helped them in a small way to fight the virus and its far-reaching devastating impact."

The actor shared that he is really happy to have lent a helping hand during the crisis. Kapoor said, "I had invested my life's savings for this venture and it makes me proud that the platform has supported those in serious need in these desperate and trying times."

Over 3.60 lakh cases reported in India:

Witnessing a continuous surge in coronavirus infections across the country, India reported over 3.60 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases and close to 3,300 related deaths in the last 24 hours, its biggest single-day hike since the onset of the pandemic. A total of 3,60,960 new COVID-19 cases, 3,293 related deaths and 2,61,162 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total active cases to 29,78,709, as per the health ministry update on Wednesday morning. The total count of positive cases now stands at 1,79,97,267 whereas the death toll has soared up to 2,01,187 deaths. A total of 1,48,17,371 people have recovered so far from the disease.

Over 28 crore samples tested so far:

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 28,27,03,789 samples tested for COVID-19 up to April 27. Of these 17,23,912 samples  tested on Tuesday. The total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered stand at over 14,78,27,367 crore, informed the health ministry.
