Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has reacted to the Insider-Outsider Debate in Bollywood. He said that with the introduction of OTT platforms, outsiders now have more opportunities to prove their talent.
In an interview, Anurag also mentioned that despite having connections with Anil Kapoor’s family, Ranveer Singh had to struggle a lot in the early stages of his career. Actually, Anil Kapoor’s wife Sunita Kapoor and Ranveer’s father Jagjit Singh Bhavani are cousins. As a result, he is also a relative of Anil Kapoor.
Anurag said, Ranveer auditioned for ‘Shaitan’ but he was rejected. I wanted to cast him in ‘Bombay Velvet’ but it was very difficult. The studio producing the film did not believe my point and said that if I make a film with Ranveer, then they will not pay me. So I have two stories from my production house that Ranveer was rejected, but now he is a star.
Film was made with Ranbir Kapoor
After not taking Ranveer Singh, Anurag made ‘Bombay Velvet’ in 2015 with Ranbir Kapoor in which Anushka Sharma also played the lead role. The film proved to be a flop at the box office and was critically criticized by critics as well.
Pointless from nepotism debate
In this interview, Anurag spoke on the ongoing nepotism debate in Bollywood. The debates of nepotism were fine around 2000, he said. At present, this debate is unfounded after the introduction of the OTT platform. There are many opportunities on the OTT and for the outsiders. There was a time when Kangana and I fought against nepotism. When the queen was being made, how many people trusted the actress or that film? No one. We made the film and won the battle. In this industry too, like the rest of the business, earlier people were supported.
