Another Setback From India to Pakistan, 200% Tariff on Imported Goods

Proposal for imposing 200 percent duty on all items imported from Pakistan has been passed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. After the Pulwama attack, India took away the status of Most Favored Nation from Pakistan.

The Indian government has given a Big blow to Pakistan. Proposal for imposing 200 percent duty on all items imported from Pakistan has been passed in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Significantly, after the Pulwama attack, India had seized the status of the Most Favored Nation from Pakistan.

Apart from this, the Upper House also approved the proposal to increase Basic Customs (BCD) on lentils, boric acid and Diagnostic and Laboratory Regions.

WAGAH, PAKISTAN – MARCH 11: A Pakistani Patan guard shuts the Pakistan gate after the ceremony to lower the national flags at the border crossing between Pakistan and India March 11, 2004 in Wagah, Pakistan. The ceremony, a daily colourful parade conducted by Pakistani Patan guards and the Indian Border Security force took place as the Indian cricket team were beginning their first full tour of Pakistan in almost 15 years. The tour is seen as evidence that the two nuclear-armed rivals are getting closer after almost going to war over the Himalayan region of Kashmir less than two years ago. Customs on boric acid will increase from 17.5 percent to 27.5 percent. At the same time, the fee for diagnostic items will increase from 20 percent to 30 percent.

Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur presented two statutory proposals on behalf of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who were accepted in alphabetically. In the first proposal, for the inclusion of new fee item under chapter 98 of the first schedule of the Customs Act, 1975, it has been sought to give approval for the notification issued in February 2019, which encompasses customs duty on all items imported from Pakistan to 200 percent.

It is noteworthy that since last year's Pulwama terror attack, the relations between the two countries remain intact. India has repeatedly warned Pakistan to craft its terrorism on its soil. But there is no change in his attitude. Recently, it became strange when Pakistani army spokesman Asif Gafoor termed it as a hero on the occasion of Burhan Wani's anniversary.

While tweeting about Kashmir, Gafur has written that today's heroes are giving their lives for a better tomorrow's future. It is clear that once again Pakistan has proved that it always stands in the side of the terrorists.

It seems that like the China-US Trade War, trade war may start in India and Pakistan. Although the trade volume between India and Pakistan is very low. Between July and January 2018-19, trade between the two countries was $ 1.12 billion.
