Another Incident of Raping a Minor and Burning Alive in Tripura

A similar case has come to light in Tripura amid widespread outrage across the country against burning girls alive in Hyderabad and Unnao. After a month rape a 17-year-old girl burnt alive. Police have arrested accused Ajoy Rudra Paul and his mother Anima Rudra Paul after the girl's death in a government hospital.

The girl's father told the police that Ajoy kidnapped her daughter on October 28 from her house in Kalyanpur (Western Tripura) and took her home to Shantir Bazar (South Tripura). Ajoy used to rape the girl every now and then. He demanded a dowry of five lakh rupees for her marriage with him. Ajoy agreed to marry her on 11 December after the girl was pressurized by her parents.

He also took the first installment of dowry. However, he quarreled with his mother for dowry money. After this, he poured kerosene on the girl and burnt her alive. Families and neighbors angry over the girl's death attackerd Ajoy and Anima. Police is investigating the case.
