Previous India captain Anil Kumble has been appointed as the head coach of Kings XI Punjab for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As per ESPNcricinfo, Kumble has been placed responsible for "all cricket-related issues" of the group and will make a presentation to the group the executives with respect to his plans on October 19.

KXIP co-owner Mohit Burman said Kumble will likewise accept an approach R Ashwin's future with the group on the same day.

The 48-year-old from Bengaluru, who had a concise stretch with the Indian men's group as a head coach between 2016 and 2017, is recently the first Indian mentor in the IPL.

For Kumble, Kings XI will be the third IPL group that he will be associated with, having included as a player and later captain with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008.

He had likewise joined Mumbai Indians in 2013 as a mentor before stopping in 2015. He at that point joined the Indian group as the main mentor however it cut off rancorously in 2017 after his association with captain Virat Kohli moved toward becoming "untenable".

Kumble is the fifth coach to join the Punjab franchise in the last five editions.

Kings XI had arrived at the semifinals in 2008 and completed second-best in the wake of losing in the final to Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 edition.
