Maruti Suzuki to Launch 2 New Cars

Sanjana Mukhiya

Maruti Suzuki hit the bulls-eye in 1999 when they launched the Wagon R in India. Come January 23, an all-new 2019 Wagon R will make its debut. But what makes this car different from others? Here is a brief overview of some of the features of the Wagon R 2019 against its rivals.

2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Physical attributes

In terms of sheer physical height, the Wagon R towers over its peers with a considerable 1,675 mm of height, which is 115 mm more than its closest competitor, the Hyundai Santro? In terms of length and width as well, the Wagon R ranks well in the top three biggest hatchbacks.

The two completely new cars will be equipped with a BSVI-compliant petrol engine. They are set to be launched post-April 2019.

Other cars will move to BSVI petrol engines by December 2019. New WagonR, which is set to be launched in January 2019, will get a BSIV engine instead.

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch two completely new cars in India in 2019. These are over and above the facelifts and updates that have been earmarked for the year. The carmaker is yet to officially reveal the upcoming all-new models, but we expect it to be replacement models of cars like the Alto.

Maruti has stated that the new cars with BSVI engine will be able to run on BSIV petrol as well. This will allow the carmaker to roll out the two cars throughout India. Currently, Delhi is the only city where BSVI fuel is available. The low sulphur fuel is set to be introduced in neighbouring cities like Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Noida by April 2019.

However, the new WagonR, which is scheduled to arrive in Jan-Feb 2019, will be powered by a BSIV petrol engine. It is expected to be bigger than the existing model. The Baleno and Vitara Brezza are also set to receive a facelift later next year, but these are not amongst the two new models that Maruti intends to launch in 2019.

Meanwhile, other cars from Maruti's lineup will gradually switch to BSVI engines. The process of switching to engines that run on cleaner fuel is expected to be completed by December 2019. Switching to BSVI-compliant engines will undoubtedly make the existing cars more expensive. The increment in price is expected to be around Rs 10,000 for existing models

Wagon R has always been considered as one of the best economical options, offering class-leading value-for-money. The 2019 hatchback is expected to start with Rs 4.5 lakh price tag, which puts it at par with the likes of Santro and Tiago, which are the most expensive in the segment.
